There's More Than One Way to Advertise

Unfortunately, thanks to a new state law for Illinois, the one that I prefer will no longer be available to me.

The form of advertising I prefer is through recommendations and reviews, and Amazon.com has an Associates program for precisely that: if someone clicks a link on one of my reviews that leads to the Amazon.com page for that product, and they buy the product, I would get a commission for the sale. Not anymore.

Gov. Quinn signed a law that requires internet-based retailers to pay Illinois' sales tax if they have affiliates in the state of Illinois, and Amazon Associates members fall under that policy.

Admittedly, I haven't yet made any reviews or encouraged anybody in such a way that they were inspired to buy something, but the potential is now gone.

Unless and until I move out of Illinois.
