Mid-Week Special: Bah, humbug

Sheer coincidence that Christmas falls on a Wednesday this year, but no reason I can't take advantage of it.

I hate Christmas.

It's not just the blatant commercialization of a religious holiday--- well, maybe it mostly is, but even when I'm not working retail, I hate Christmas. The endless repetition of unoriginal music certainly doesn't help.

But the commercialization is definitely mostly at fault.

When you spend more time trying to figure out what to give people than you do looking forward to visiting with the family... when you have to not just listen to screaming kids, but also clean up after them... "I want, I want, I want..." It's all too much.

Besides, one, I'd have more money to spend on gifts if I didn't have to spend money on wasteful things like wrapping paper that's only going to get torn off in a few hours; two, what's with the compulsion against giving money?; and three, I'd rather keep my money and spend it on me, you do the same, and everything will be loads easier.

Give it a try. Don't give wrapped gifts this Christmas. Better yet, don't give gifts at all.

  1. I agree with your 'don't give wrapped gifts'. We never have, except for a Naughty Santa game. Even then, it's only one of those pathetic bags, no real wrapping at all.

    Just worthless trouble.

    1. Lucky you. I wish I could convince my family to do the same. They look at me with derision if I don't wrap something.
