New Phone, New Reviews

Well, my Droid2 died a few weeks ago. Actually, it died exactly a week after my two-year contract expired, so it was probably time for a new phone anyway.

I was moderately happy with the Motorola Droid 2, but being my first and only smartphone, I have little to compare it to. I put up with a fair number of problems, including Verizon's terrible customer service. The browser crashed on a regular basis, the text cursor jumped around periodically misspelling words, the downloader was reliably unreliable.

But it had a physical keyboard, which then and now is a requirement for me when it comes to smartphones, and will probably remain such until they perfect the laser virtual keyboards.

When I was shopping for smartphones in 2010, I was a prior AT&T customer, but they didn't have a smartphone with a physical keyboard. This time around, they did.

Now I'm rocking the Samsung Captivate Glide, my first non-Motorola phone, back with AT&T. I'm sad I had to lose my unlimited data plan, which, though Verizon stopped offering it, I was grandfathered into, and AT&T doesn't offer at all, but my experience with AT&T's customer service is far superior and makes up for any lack.

So far, I'm pretty happy with the CG, though the browser does crash periodically (though far less often than the Droid 2), which seems to be a normal problem across the board with Android.

Anyway, I'm still learning the limits and functionality of this new phone (without peeking at the manual--that's still shrink-wrapped), and I'll post a more complete review sometime in the future.

As promised, a full and comprehensive review of my Samsung Captivate Glide is now available! Read it here.
