IIWK: Employment Drug Testing

Not for every company I've worked, but for a few, I have been required to submit to drug testing. I have no objection to this, as I don't even ingest caffeine, let alone alcohol or any harder drugs. I also don't particularly care for poppy seeds.

My issue is this: when agitated or nervous, my body gains the ability to hold a remarkable amount of water and to lock down my bladder.

I believe employers should give the option to submit either urine or hair follicle test. I know the hair follicle test is more thorough and provides a longer history, so if anything, I would expect employers to be more appreciative of those who chose the second option. I also recognize that the hair follicle test is probably more expensive for the employer, but for larger corporations, especially those who expect their employees to submit to regular or random screenings, the hair follicle test would allow for greater clearance between tests and reduce the interruption into their lives.

I would expect that there would have to be lines written into a contract stipulating that employees who opt for the urine test not be discriminated against, despite the much more fleeting history provided by this option. Especially since I know plenty of people are follicly-impaired.

Of course, I also have plenty of hair to spare.
